Purpose The demand for resources for development also increased corporate pressures for sustainability. Consequently, it is necessary for organizations to adopt measures addressing the need to implement a new business model, which allows a management team concerned about the economy and the optimization of resources to make sustainable business models a strategic interest of the organization. The purpose of this paper is to analyze sustainable business models and the applied practices to operationalize them. Design/methodology/approach This study was conducted through a systematic review of the literature to identify the sustainable business models addressed in the literature, and what practices are applied to operationalize these models. Findings The data show that sustainable business models have an approach centered on the direct participation of stakeholders, especially the user, in the process of creating sustainable value. Overall, they offer a high level of technology-based business models that prioritize the use of clean energy, material maximization and energy efficiency, with an emphasis on repair and maintenance rather than on disposal and scheduled obsolescence, as well as an emphasis on natural and renewable processes, the reuse of waste, environmental stewardship, product transformation into technological artefacts for users, and products for services and results. Research limitations/implications The study’s contributions provide a more detailed understanding of sustainable business models and what practices can be adopted by companies to make the business truly sustainable. This paper contributed to the discussion of the research on sustainable business models and their operational practices. Originality/value The analysis promotes insights into new opportunities for companies to integrate their traditional business models with sustainability, contributing to the application of sustainable practices within the managerial scope. Companies that operate sustainable business models need to be aware that collaborative, sharing and networking models can deliver positive results for sustainable business models.
ABSTRACTThe Circular Economy promotes sustainable consumption practices in the clothing and second-hand products sector, provides a reduction of the pollutants and ensures component durability without the need to remove raw materials from nature. Online platforms can be associated with this type of business, as they provide quick and wide access to these products. The purpose of this study is to analyze how consumers identify and perceive practices of second-hand products consumption, based on the design of the circular business model. A survey was conducted using an electronic questionnaire. The results demonstrate the existence of consumption practices following the circular model, even though the concept is still implicit to the business of second-hand products. The concern of the individuals about the impact that the excessive consumption of products can cause to the environment and ecosystem sustainability is evidenced, as well as the perception of the pursuit for means of consumption that do not harm this ecosystem. However, this perception for the main purpose of the circular business model is, yet, not consciously present as to the benefits that the adoption of a circular business model can offer, both for the environment and for society as a whole.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between meaning of work and organizational socialization labor context for migrant workers evaluation. Originality/value: Due to the increasing number of world migrations, there is a need for research on migrants and their relation to the variables that involve organizational practices. The perception of work for migrant workers refers to the characteristics of the tasks and the way work is organized and the integration and adaptation of the individual to the environment, contributing to the attribution of meaning to work. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative survey was conducted by applying a questionnaire to Senegalese, Bengalese and Haitian workers who recently arrived in Brazil. Findings: The results show the variables that lead migrants to give meaning to their work, as well as their perception about the socialization process and the context conditions. It was also demonstrated that organizational socialization partially mediates the relation between meaning of work and the perception of precarious work context for these workers. The results contribute to demonstrate the importance of organizational socialization in labor contexts that absorb migrant workers, as well as the relationship between the elaboration of the meaning of work and the perception of precarious work.
