Java Island is the region where agriculture plays an important role in the economic activity of Indonesia. Nevertheless, the changing weather pattern in Sangiran has affect the cropping patterns, time of planting, production, and quality of the agriculture. Climate change affects the agricultural production loss between 5 - 20 %, while the long-term impact is the absence of farmers working on dry land. This sort of thing recently happens in Sangiran region which is a granary in Central Java because of the adaptation of the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the household livelihood strategies of farmers in the face a changing weather pattern in the Sangiran region. This research uses descriptive quantitative and qualitative approaches (mix method) in Sangiran region with multi-stage random sampling technique. The results of the research show that farmer households in Sangiran region face a changing weather pattern. Coping strategies that the farmers do while their facing changes in rainfall patterns are selling assets or property, money loan, reduce daily consumption, and change jobs. So far, the issue of demographic conditions with development has been more discussed at the national and provincial levels. There has not been much discussion at the administrative level below, the regency, and at the sub district level. In line with decentralization, demographic issues at the local level have become very important. Because it will be a consideration in the preparation of development programs at the local level. This study aims to identify demographic conditions, including their potential and challenges, at the sub district level. The research will emphasize the use of available secondary data obtained from various related sources. The results have shown that the potential of human resources in the Kretek Sub District was huge. It can see from the number of productive age populations, which is three times the population of non-productive age. This research conclude that the demographic bonus and window of opportunity will win by the Kretek Sub District. The challenge ahead is, of course, how to take advantage of this large amount. The goal is that the productive population can access the economy well, which leads to the welfare of the people.
Climate change has inevitably created impacts globally ranging from regulatory changes to affecting social communities. Among these impacts, climate migration becomes the unprecedented and significant one. Millions of migrants are environmentally displaced and the Southeast Asia region is noted as one critical hotspot of the movement. This issue presents challenges for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as there is a need to enlighten and signify the urgency of the problem, knowing that climate-induced migration is still under-discussed within the regional body’s policy-making. Thus, this article aims to analyse why climate migration is under-discussed in ASEAN’s environmental policies and how the ASEAN regional framework lacks preparation to overcome challenges coming from climate change primarily on the issue of climate migration. In doing so, qualitative research method and discourse analysis will be used with data collection obtained from publications, academic journals, articles, and official reports. This article found that environmental communication and climate politics are the main elements that construct the discourse of climate migration within the policy-making of ASEAN. Moreover, a reflection on the discourse of climate migration in other regions such as the Pacific will be delivered.
Over the last ten years, the Bedog Sub-watershed area has continued to develop into an urban area. Along with these developments, land-use change processes occurred in the Bedog Sub-watershed area, especially the reduction in agricultural land, which was depressed by population growth. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to identify population pressure on agricultural land, identify the carrying capacity of agricultural land, and develop sustainable management strategies based on the carrying capacity of agricultural land in the Bedog Sub-watershed. The calculation method utilized was the measurement of population pressure on agricultural land and the carrying capacity of agricultural land, analyzed spatially with distribution maps. The sustainable management strategy was then formulated through the SWOT method. Overall, in the Bedog sub-watershed, the carrying capacity of agricultural land was low, while population pressure on agricultural land was high. Thus, sustainable management strategies in the Bedog Sub-watershed can be carried out by increasing land productivity, diversifying non-agricultural jobs, empowering farmers, optimizing land use, and innovating environmentally friendly agricultural technology.
