Journalists are expected to perform truthfully and ethically which contributes to the strengthening of democracy by sharing reliable information. However, the political economy of media suggests that political and economic elites use the media for their vested interests. Politicians and media owners exploit working journalists. Journalists are not well paid, and they are forced to do unethical practices. The present study explores the journalists’ economic issues at Gujranwala (A city of Punjab, Pakistan) and how economic issues affect the ethical practices of journalists. Data was collected through in-depth interviews of 13 working journalists of Gujranwala city. Findings revealed that journalists are facing serious economic issues and these issues are leading them to unethical practices. It is suggested that government, judiciary, NGOs and journalistic bodies should play an effective role for overcoming this alarming situation.
This study has a plan to measure the level of knowledge and perceptions regarding polio vaccination in south Punjab, Pakistan. To examine the dominant source of awareness concerning utilized communication channels in the Polio vaccination campaign a total of 200 respondents (100 couples) were selected as the studys sample by applying the systematic random sampling technique. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of the respondents shared the poor knowledge about Polio. As it was found that, females were more conscious and responsible towards their children as compared to their counterparts. It was also found that males were the decision making authority regarding the polio vaccination of their children. The females seemed more convinced as compared to male respondents towards polio immunization. But, they had sufficient knowledge about the importance of polio vaccination. The television was the major information source of Polio vaccination among most of the respondents.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a project between China and Pakistan on economic and geo-strategic grounds. This research examines the news reports, editorials and opinions of the leading American and Indian English newspapers. The contents of these newspapers were analyzed qualitatively to find out as to how print media frames the projects of CPEC from 20 th August, 2018 to 19 th August, 2019. The unified posture of news reporting is identified in all selected dailies of both countries. Reinforcement of negative stance taken by the Indian and American newspapers through their contents shapes public opinion around the world in general and in their countries in particular in accordance with the policies of their governments. America has also opposed the China's investment in CPEC projects to confront Chinese economic supremacy, particularly in South Asian region. The analyses of selected newspapers suggested also an image of what media frame and projects an issue to the world.
Excessive social media usage can be harmful to the mental health of individuals. The core objective of the study was to inspect the effects of social media usage on mental health. Secondly, to find out the mean differences of gender, social media and mental health. A cross-sectional research design was utilized to fulfil the study objectives. n=1067 students from six different universities in Punjab, Pakistan, were selected through a multi-stage sampling technique. Data was collected through an adapted questionnaire comprised of three distinct parts, i.e. socio-demographic profile, social media integration scale by Maree (2017) and Goldberg depression scale (1993), to check the social media effects on mental health among youth. Attained replies were analyzed by using SPSS analysis software version 21. Furthermore, to check the direction and consistency of the relationship among these variables, Pearson correlation was applied, which demonstrated a negative relationship between social media usage and mental health problems at p<.000. This study concluded a negative influence of excessive social media usage on mental health among youth in public universities of Punjab, Pakistan.
Political knowledge influences political behavior and political participation as the person who has sufficient political knowledge will contribute his part in political issues and get engage himself in political campaigns. Hence, a politically informed person put an impact upon others by sharing his views and information. Now a day social media has revolutionized the world due to its unlimited features, and it made it easier for everyone to spread the news and especially the political content. Different political parties use social media platforms to engage their voters and especially youth. This study suggests that social media plays a critical role for youngsters to disseminate information regarding politics and affects the internal and external efficacy of youth by the transmission of knowledge and political participation through social media.
