Studies on effects of social media on crisis communication is scarce. This study sought to bridge this gap in research and provide insights for organizations to use in managing crisis communication today. The data for this preliminary study is based on interviews of public relations professionals and case histories of Malaysia Airlines MH 370 crises. It was found that social media substantially accelerated the need for crisis communication by altering the practice of crisis communication, from how crises is reported and managed by organizations. This study also proposed strategies that organizations can implement to prepare for managing the social media element of a crisis.

Biodiversitas 22: 2511-2518. This paper presents a case study of agroforestry (AF) practices and challenges in Mt. Merapi risk and hazard-prone area of Indonesia. AF has been practiced by farmers in Mt. Merapi risk and hazard-prone area from older generation. Each area in Mt. Merapi has different types of AF such as agrisilviculture, silvopasture, and agrosilvopasture. In the village of Glagaharjo, Yogyakarta, this system has been used for land restoration or conservation. 139 AF adopters were chosen from 269 respondents that have been randomly interviewed from four different areas around Mt. Merapi. Statistical descriptive method using values of mean and percentage were used. Additionally, multinomial Logistic regression was utilized to understand the model. The findings of the study show that the trend of AF is increasing, especially in Glagaharjo, after the 2010 eruption. AF systems are also found to be practiced for mitigation strategies in facing Mt. Merapi hazards and risk, especially for crop protection, and land and water conservation. Promoting AF as one of the coping strategies in facing Mt. Merapi hazards and risk is important as indicated by the results of this study.
Literature has shown that planned change is accompanied by excitement and hope. People affected by change require quality information. Failure to communicate change may lead to resistance. This paper presents a change involving the amalgamation of two university faculties into one. Within the framework of a case study research design and the used of the Constructivist Grounded Theory for data collection and analysis, the theme of communication during the change process is presented through the experiences and life accounts of faculty members involved and affected by it. The paper ends with useful suggestions for change agents in today's complex organization.
Prolonged debate exists concerning the effectiveness of anti-poverty programs through micro-credit to the well-being of the poor. Some studies showed that microcredit have positive impact to the poor people's lives. However, other studies stated that what actually seemed as a remedy is actually just an increase in the business income that does not necessarily bring about to a better well-being of the poor. This paper identifies the impact of the implementation of social interventions brought in through micro-credit schemes of poverty alleviation programs for the welfare being of society in Malaysia and Indonesia. The methodology used was a combination of the quantitative and qualitative methods aimed to get the maximum results based on Standard Model of Social Development. Data analysis performed on the respondents indicated four factors leading to the failure of the welfare of the community. These factors are social networks, community participation, community development and employment opportunities. This research suggests that agencies involved in poverty alleviation through micro-credit schemes must carry out appropriate efforts towards the empowerment and active participation of the respondents in social and economic investment as stated in the Standard Model of Social Development.
