Over the years, traffic sign detection and recognition systems gives extra value to driver assistance when driving, leading to more user-friendly driving experience and much improved safety for passengers. As part of Advanced Driving Systems (ADAS) one can be benefitted by using this system especially with driving incapacities by alerting and aid them about the existence of traffic signs to minimized unwanted circumstances during driving such as fatigue, poor sight and adverse weather conditions. Though a various number of traffic sign detection systems have been revised in literature; the need of design with a robust algorithm still remains open for further research. This paper purposes to design a system capable of performing traffic sign detection while considering variations of challenges such as color illumination, computational difficulty and functional constraints existed. Traffic sign detection is divided into three main parts namely; Pre-processing, Color segmentation and Thresholding. The color segmentation method is vital as it presents a detailed investigation of vision based color spaces in this case RGB, HSV and CMYK considering varying illumination conditions under different environments. This paper further highlights possible improvements to the proposed approaches for traffic sign detection.
Getting enough sleep at the right times can help in improving quality of life and protect mental and physical health. This study proposes a portable sleep monitoring device to determine the relationship between the ambient temperature and quality of sleep. Body condition parameter such as heart rate, body temperature and body movement was used to determine quality of sleep. All readings will be log into database so that users can review back and hence analyze quality of sleep. The functionality of the overall system is designed for a better experience with a very minimal intervention to the user. The simple test on the body condition (body temperature and heart rate) while asleep with several different ambient temperatures are varied and the result shows that someone has a better sleep for the temperature range of 23 to 28 degree Celsius. This can prove by lower body temperature and lower heart rate.
This paper presents a hardware design and optical tomography application for fast cross sectional detection of single or two phase flows in pipes or bubble columns. Sixteen laser pointer transmitters and photodiode receivers are arranged at the object cross sectional boundary to detect the existence of bubbles inside a vertical column pipeline. A valve is installed at the bottom of the pipe to produce the source of bubbles. Due to the simple operation, good heat transfer and mass transfer of bubble columns, they can be applied in a wide range of applications in the chemical process industry. The size of the bubbles produced was estimated to be between 5 mm and 20 mm in diameter. The voltage drop at the sensor directly shows the existence of bubbles between the transmitter and receiver.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
