Pharyngeal pH 5 reflux episodes are present in most healthy adults, mainly in upright position and in the postprandial period. The importance of these episodes for the occurrence of laryngeal symptoms and signs and for treatment response needs to be prospectively assessed.
Esophageal acid exposure increases over time in previously symptom-free, healthy subjects. The increase in airway symptoms or laryngeal abnormalities is not directly related to increased acid exposure.
There were statistically significant correlations among RSI, RFS, and the IHC scores of CA Ϫ and Hsp 70 (p Ͻ 0.05). The IHC scores of CA Ϫ and Hsp 70 in the LPRD group were 1.70 1.06 and 1.90 0.88, respectively, while those in the control group were 0.78 0.73 and 0.94 0.87, respectively, indicating that CA Ϫ and Hsp 70 expressions in the LPRD group are statistically higher than those in the control group (p Ͻ 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study suggested that CA Ϫ and Hsp 70 expressions may have a role in diagnosis of LPRD as a objective diagnostic method.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
