Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is an important infrastructure to ensure human health and the environment. In its development, aspects of environmental safety and health are of concern. This paper case study was conducted at the Water Treatment Plant Company in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Hazard identification and risk assessment is one part of the occupational safety and health program at the risk management stage. The purpose of this study was to identify potential hazards using hazard identification methods and risk assessment methods. Risk assessment is done using criteria of severity and probability of accident. The results obtained from this risk assessment are 22 potential hazards present in the water purification process. Extreme categories that exist in the risk assessment are leakage of chlorine and industrial fires. Chlorine and fire leakage gets the highest value because its impact threatens many things, such as industrial disasters that could endanger human life and the environment. Control measures undertaken to avoid potential hazards are to apply the use of personal protective equipment, but management will also be better managed in accordance with hazard control hazards, occupational safety and health programs such as issuing work permits, emergency response training is required, Very useful in overcoming potential hazards that have been determined.
Limestone mining is an industry that produces pollutants in the air. The pollutants produced from the lime mining industry are dust and gas particles. The resulting lime dust can harm the health of workers. ARI is a respiratory disease that attacks lime mining workers. ARI does not only occur due to exposure to lime dust, there are several risk factors for workers that can cause ARDs. This study aims to determine the exposure to lime dust and the risk factors for workers with the incidence of ARI. This research was conducted using the literature review method with a sample size of 16 journals. The results showed that 80% of the variables studied were significant or had a relationship with the incidence of ARI. From the review of the article, it is known that there is a period of work, use of PPE, age, history of disease, and smoking habits. The most dominant risk factors that have a significant relationship with the incidence of ARI are the working period variable and the use of PPE.
Background: Roselle flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa) has been used as a food and herbal drinks, in hot and cold beverages, as a herbal medicine. Objective: To examine the effect of consuming roselle dried flower petals on changes in maternal hypertensive blood pressure during postpartum period. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with non-equivalent control group design conducted in 2016. There were 30 samples recruited using consecutive sampling with 15 samples in the intervention group and control group. Data were analyzed using paired t-test to know the difference of blood pressure value before and after intervention in the intervention and control group, and Independent t-test to determine the difference of blood pressure decrease between intervention and control group. Mann-whitney and Wilcoxon test were also performed for data analysis. Results: Findings showed that there were statistically significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure values before and after intervention in the intervention and control group with p-value 0.000 <0.05 with systolic blood pressure decrease was 5 mmHg and diastolic was 5.33 mmHg. Additionally, there was a significant effect in the duration of healing in the intervention group with p-value 0.000 <0.05, with the average duration of healing was 2 days. Conclusion: There was significant effects of dried petals of rosella flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa) brewed with 200 ml of hot water with temperature 90oC in lowering blood pressure, and there was significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure and duration of healing between the intervention and control group of mothers who consumed antihypertensive drugs. The results of this study can be applied by midwives in postpartum care with the cases of hypertension. It is expected that this intervention can help the healing process more quickly through a combination of antihypertensive medicines and sedated petals of rosella flowers.
Background: One of the puerperal complication is uterine subinvolution that can cause bleeding to maternal death. Oxytocin massage can stimulate oxytocin hormone that plays a role in the process of uterine involution. Endorphine massage can increase the release of oxytocin and endorphine hormone that give a sense of calm and comfort. It also increases production of oxytocin hormone that can improve the process of uterine involution. Objective: To prove the effectiveness of a combination of oxytocin massage and endorphine massage to uterine involution in primiparaous mothers during postpartum period. Methods: This was a quasy-experimental study with pretest-posttest with control group design. Total samples were 44 normal postpartum mothers selected using purposive sampling technique, which were randomly assigned in four groups, namely: 1) oxytocin massage group, 2) endorphin massage group, 3) combined oxytocin-endorphin massage group, and 4) control group. The data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate and One Way Anova to test the effectiveness of the intervention. Results: There were statistically significant differences of fundal height before and after intervention among the four groups (p=<0.05). Conclusion: The combination of oxytocin massage and endorphine massage proved most effective in accelerating uterine involution in normal postpartum mothers.
