Mathematical communication ability are one of the learning goals, but in reality, student's communication ability are still weak. This research aims compare mathematical communication ability between the students who taught using RME approach and who were taught using conventional approach according to their self-efficacy. Quasi experimental research was conducted at SMP Negeri 5 Kerinci, involving eighth grade students. Data were collected through questionnaires and tests. The results showed that students' mathematical communication ability was higher when they are taught using RME approach than taught using conventional approach both to students who have high self-efficacy and vice versa.
Abstract. The improvement of mathematical problem-solving ability was the aim of this study through the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach compared to conventional learning according to the students' self-efficacy level. This study used a quasi-experimental study with a static group design conducted in eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kerinci and SMP Negeri 5 Kerinci. Data collected through the questionnaire to determine students’ self-efficacy level and the test of students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. The hypothesizes was tested using a t-test. The results showed that students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities who learned using the RME approach were higher than students’ abilities who learned using conventional learning. In addition, the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who have low self-efficacy who learned using the RME approach were higher than those who learned using conventional learning.
Mathematics learning still tends to be structuralistic and mechanistic. It resulted in students' difficulties and errors in understanding mathematical concepts and principles. Whereas mathematics is a human activity that is always in contact with their culture. One of the cultures that becomes the starting point for learning mathematics is a traditional house, such as the “Rumah Tuo”. The purpose of this study was to describe the mathematical activity at the Rumah Tuo. This type of research is a qualitative-research with an ethnographic approach. The research instrument used in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study are that there are mathematical activities carried out at Rumah Tuo, namely counting activities using Gantang Biheh, measuring activities in making poles in the form of a 16-sided prism, and designing traditional houses in such a way that they can be shaped like ancient means of transportation, namely ships. The conclusion of this research is that there are three mathematical activities through the “Rumah Tuo” culture, namely measuring, designing and calculating.
The purpose of this service activity is to develop skills for youth villager who are involved in Karang Taruna in managing natural products in the Temedak Customary forest, Keluru Village, Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province. One of the many natural products found in the Temedak customary forest is Forest Bamboo which can be managed by the surrounding community. This mentoring activity was carried out with the support of the government and BumDes, the surrounding community and the assistance of IAIN Kerinci's Kukerta Students. In addition, this service is expected to provide knowledge in several fields, namely production, sales promotion, and marketing of a product. The method used is the guidance and evaluation method. The results of innovations made by youth organizations by processing bamboo into products that have selling and innovative values such as decorative lamps, tissue holders, and others.
Mathematics educators commonly believe that an open-ended approach could facilitate students to build their creative thinking ability and its disposition, especially in geometry. This research belongs to a quasi-experiment that used a non-equivalent control group design. The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition through an open-ended learning approach toward area and volume of flat geometrical objects problems. Two classes are selected as the sample, they are the control group and experiment group. The open-ended approach was used in the experiment group then direct instruction in the control group. The population is all of the eighth-grade students at one of the junior high school in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This study used to test and non-test as the research instruments. The test instrument was a creative thinking ability test while the non-test instrument was a questionnaire. These instruments were given after the learning process then analyzed by using Bivariate Correlation through SPSS. According to the analysis results, the finding is: the correlation coefficient between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition is at the middle level. The conclusion is there is a significant correlation between students’ creative thinking ability and students’ creative thinking disposition.
