The essence of the concepts of “distance learning”, “asynchronous learning”, “synchronous learning”, “quarantine” is explained. Articles of domestic and foreign teachers and scientists analysing the broached subject were reviewed. The article highlights advantages and disadvantages of distance learning. It has been studied that for students studiing foreign languages remotely, an interesting form of learning is watching TV shows and movies. The digital programs and the essence of their advantages are also given. The researchers’ view on the effectiveness of multimedia presentations, trainings, games is given. It is also found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is hard for parents to work on the platforms unlike children. The platforms for synchronous and asynchronous learning are separated. It is noted that teachers with primary school students use visual forms of learning to interest children and to present new material in a clear and accessible way. Medical translation is performed as a series of collaborative efforts from doctors and professional translators. Very often the results of their collaboration are medical questionnaires intended for patients. Medical survey instruments have proved their worth as reliable tools of a considerable predictive value, though their translation requires a specific methodology due to a culture-bound character of the material. Equivalence of the original and translated texts, translation quality, and the respondents’ ultimate satisfaction with the surveying practice depend to a great extent upon the degree of translator’s cultural competence, health literacy, and his/her awareness of the pragmatic and communicative aspects of translation. The task of producing and validating an accurate and fluently translated Ukrainian version of a disease-specific health-related quality-of-life instrument is exemplified by the IOF’s 1-min risk test, a 10-item questionnaire, designed to evaluate the likelihood of developing osteoporosis.
The paper aims to give a comprehensive cognitive and semiotic analysis of translation strategies implied in the translation of the film “Darkest Hour”. Regarding a film as a communicative process mediated by certain semiotic features makes it possible to analyze the semiotic character of film discourse in translation. Thus, it was decided that translation is not just a speech-oriented process but a communicative act taking place within a definite semiotic space in a cross-cultural perspective. The semiotic model of cinematic discourse has a complicated structure and is analyzed based on semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic criteria. The choice of the semiotic system primarily depends on the communicative situation and its recipients. As the semiotic system of the film “Darkest Hour” is both socioculturally and situationally conditioned, the translator reconstructed the sense of the source language text by implying the translation transformations that assured the accuracy and adequacy of its translation into the target language text.
The article investigates the principle of information technology specialists' competence formation in the conditions of globalization and integration economic processes. In the course of the study, the factors determining the necessity of IT specialists' fluency in foreign languages, in particular in English of professional communication, are identified. Such processes are analyzed on the basis of the theoretical grounding of the researchers on this topic. The relevance of the article is due to the needs of today's globalized society in the context of the development of informatization and digitalization. The study clarifies the essence of English-language lexical competence of future specialists in information technology, identifies the pedagogical conditions, the theoretical rationale, practical development and experimental testing of the methodology for forming English-language lexical competence in future specialists in information technologies within the framework of masters’ degree programmes. The stages of formation of such competence in future IT specialists were determined, a system of tasks for forming English-language lexically competence (ELC) in professionally oriented written communication (POWS) was substantiated and concluded, a linguodidactic model was designed, an algorithm of collective preparation of a written product was proposed. Importantly, the article interprets the results of the experiment in order to verify the effectiveness of the developed method of forming their ELC. The method of analysis, synthesis, research and comparative generalizing method, problem solving method and information and communication method were used for research, a methodical experiment was conducted. On the basis of the obtained data the hypothesis about the effectiveness of the methodology of ELC formation in the POWS of future IT-specialists is confirmed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
