Lithium trans-alkenyltrialkylaluminates, prepared by the hydroalumination of alkynes followed by treatment with n-butyl-lithium, react with epoxides to produce P-hydroxy-substituted trans-alkenes, which are readily convertible into py-unsaturated carbonyl derivatives.
