Bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus (ESP) memiliki peranan dalam mengembangkan kompetensi mahasiswa apabila program dan materi pembelajaran dirancang dan dikembngkan berdasarkan kebutuhan mereka. Cakupan kebahasaan dalam ESP dalam hal tertentu berbeda dengan bahasa Inggris umum. Program dan materi ESP berorientasi pada tujuan, karena itu perlu dipahami bahwa bahasa Inggris mempunyai fungsi dan peranan sebagai alat komuniksi dalam menyampaikan pemikiran dan perasaan kepada orang lain. Program dan materi ESP yang dirancang dan dikembangkan dengan baik diharapakan mempunyai peranan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa Inggris mereka secara khusus. Dengan demikian, diharapkan lulusan bahasa dan sastra Inggris mampu menguasai bidangnya dan juga mampu menguasai bahasa Inggris pada bidang ilmu lainnya secara khusus.
This research learned about kinds English learning as a foreign language wich are found at SMPN 1 Sukamaju. And, kinds of external effects in English Learning at SMPN 1 Sukamaju. The method of this research was quantitative method wich was conducted by questionnaire, the population of this research was the data after collected the data the researcher gave descriptive based on the steps of data analysis. Some kinds of learning strategis of English learnig as a foreign language were found at SMPN 1 Sukamaju in four class (VII E, VII F, VII G, VII H), namely, memori, cognitive, meta-cognitive, effective strategis, and social strategis. And, the researcher also found some kinds of external effect at SMPN 1 Sukamaju in those classes, namely, discipline, motivation from the teacher, condition of class and friends.
This study attempts to determine the students` Ability to Analyze the Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses. The authors used the descriptive method in this study. The population of the research were the fifth semester students of Faculty of Literature UMI Makassar in academic year 2018/2019. The sample of the study consisted of 20 students and were chosen through random sampling method. The istruments used were two kinds of instrument namely objective test and questionnaire to acquire data on their analytical capability of the simple past and past perfect tenses. Findings revealed that the ability of the fifth semester students was deemed as fair. This depicts that the students` ability to analyze Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses is 59, 20 which was condidered as fair. The problems found faced by the students ability to Analyze the Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses were; (1) sometimes students were confused in analyzing simple past and past perfect tenses due to the lack of basic knowledge, (2) there were many students who did not have rich vocabularies after they graduated from high school, (3) they had forgotten the pattern of the tenses, and (4) students were still having difficulties to differentiate between simple past and past perfect tenses. The implication of this study is that fresh graduates of senior high school are still lacking the necessary requirements to fullfil the standard English language competency which leads to poor language outcome of the Indonesian high schools today. Hence, the study srongly suggests that it is essential to pay special attention on senior high school students’ second language acquisition before continuing their study in Higher Education.
The reseach objectives are to know whats ymbols are performed in Lariangi dance and what meaning are conveyed in the symbols performed in Lariangi dance. The research used descriptive qualitative method to take information. The writer obsereved the house in Liya village and took some informations from them and interviewed and documented by using recorded and camera. This research also took the datum from some books, articles, internet which associat with the symbols in Lariangi dance in Wakatobi Southeast Sulawesi. The research resulted in the part of symbols in Lariangi dance start from dress, accessories, movement of the dance and the songs of Lariangi dance. The result of the research was consisted in four part. First, the symbols found in dress there are six namely Kombo Monihi, Kombo Meha, Punto/Wuray Nibelo Biru, Laka/Wuray Meha, Kambero, and Lenso/Saputangan symbolyzes sweat rag of King Buton. The second, there are eight symbols and their meaning found in accessories, namely Panto and Pintoru, Hepupu/Konde, Kamba Konde, Toboy Kamba, Hebindu/Sangi-Sangi, Kalo, Naga, Sekori Keponto Posusu symbolyzes degrees nobility. The third, there are four symbols found in movement of Lariangi dance namely, Hematu kepooli le..le, Pajogi/Nyibing/Ngifi, Nabu/Tau, and Lariangi symbolyzes Lighting. The last is symbols found in song of Lariangi dance there are nine songs namely Mangu-Mangu, Ole-Ole, Doumaraia, Denda Aule, Sailila, Waindi-Indi, Rongande, Jojongana, and Salatu symbolyzes as thankful to Allah SWT.
There are three kinds of clauses that are discussed in this study; they are nominal, relative, and adverbial clauses, and then each of these clauses has its own divisions. The article was oriented to the results about the university students' competences in these concerns. The study aimed to describe the results of the objective test that had been done by the students. The research samples consisted of 80 persons. The data were analyzed by using a mean percentage. The findings showed that the six semester students had got 12.50% of nominal clauses, 13.75% of relative clauses, and 38.34% of adverbial clauses, so that the mean percentage of the students' competences was 21.53%. It was suggested that all divisions of clauses be discussed in syntax class by showing more examples to the main problems faced by the students, so that they were able to differentiate among the clauses.
