The purpose of this study is to explore various push and pull factors of internal migration in Balochistan, to get an insight to the social life of migrants and investigate the psychological issues along with their health status. The present study was Exploratory in nature. The Universe was selected as District Hubchowki, District Gwadar and District Turbat, Balochistan. The Population comprised on the heads of families (Male Member). The data was collected by Snowball Sampling Techniques. Research Instruments like Questionnaire and Observation used for data collection. The data analysis and Hypotheses Testing was conducted through statistical methods. The recommendations of the study were comprised of the increasing rate of rural to urban migration over the time in Pakistan reflect the urban bias government polices along with lack of planning and implementation of rural development programs and schemes in the country. It will provide meaningful future urban planning in the country as migration has vast socio-economic impact upon habitants of the country. All these factors have significant relationship with the internal migration.
Many parents send their pre-school aged children to daycare services. Generally, children spend their time in daycare from the age of 3 months to 5 years. Various daycare centers are operating in Karachi. This researcher is exploratory and was focused on gathering information about the care quality standards of daycare centers. Different factors, which include institution type, operational timings, building structure and capacity, financial sources, workforce competency, service delivery mechanism (use of equipment), the behavior of staff, amenities available, hygiene management, and perception of daycare service providers have been analyzed in this research.
In Pakistan traditionally used hookah is now known as sheesha with a little difference in its texture and usage. Now sheesha contains different flavors and very popular among youth without considering its consequences. In this study researchers wants to highlight the level of awareness, socio-economic and educational background, practices, causes and general consequences among sheesha users in Karachi. A sample of 296 respondents was selected for this study which comprised of 217 (73%) male and 79 (27%) female. All of them belong to the age group of 18-30 years. Most of them were students of various public and private institutes. 142 (48%) respondents were regular sheesha smokers, 30% daily while 22% were occasional sheesha smoker. 34% started sheesha smoking at the age of 11-15 years. The majority of the respondent claims that the cause of sheesha smoking was the peer pressure in social and friend gatherings. A vast majority didn’t consider sheesha smoking harmful for health and they are unaware about the health hazards of this habit. In this circumstances, parents should keep an eye on the out-door activities of their children, all the public and private machinery should participate in awareness creating campaign against health hazards of sheesha smoking in all educational institutes countrywide along with this laws should be also fully implemented to rescue our youth from this life threatening habit.
The present study aimed to investigate extend of watching News Channels in everyday routine of the female youth and explore the effects of these channels on their psychological state as well as their social life in our society. Multistage Sampling technique was adopted in this research. Questionnaire was used to collect data from the female youth studying in University of Karachi. The sample consisted of 120 purposively selected respondents. The findings of the study indicated that in present law and order scenario of our city the females watch news channels regularly. They criticize the present trend of news telecasting, live scenes from incidents sites and screening of related details. They acclaimed that the current strategy of news channels have promoted fear, in-tolerance, helplessness, disappointment and depression among them. As far as social impacts are concerned these channels disturbed not only the social life but also created disorganization in the social system as a whole. The study concluded that Media Industry should review its News casting policies and revise the strategies on war footing. Government authority should maintain a check upon the media specifically on the performance of News Channels. Along with this, awareness sessions must be held at educational institutes and professional organizations which inform the viewers (students and professionals) to analyze reliability and validity of the news.
This traditional practice affecting not only the reproductive health of young girls but it is a major cause of domestic violence as well. This issue has been calling the care of national and international organizations in modern societies, containing Pakistan. Numerous issues which support this belief include poverty, lake of education, the perception of “virginity” of a single girl as key to a family’s honor, family building (whether joint family or nuclear family), spiritual clarification of being an adult, and short employment opportunities consequence in whole necessity of these girls on their manlike blood relatives. However, the present literature review revealed that there is no comprehensive study on child marriages and its impact on girls’ reproductive health common in Pakistan. The objectives of the present study were to study the causes of early marriages, domestic violence, and reproductive health problems as well as evaluate socio-economic features on this practice. Orangi Town then the oldest slum settlement of Karachi city was treated as the research universe in the present study while it’s UC-12 ‘Mujahidabad’ and UC-13 ‘Baloch Goth’ was the target areas. This research was a qualitative study where the researchers selected the mixed-method strategy for data collection. The snowball sampling and convenience sampling techniques were adopted. A tailor-made Questionnaire was used for data collection. The data was analyzed in tabular form and relevant case studies were also incorporated.
