In order to meet the need for Liquified Petroleum Gas in Indonesia, which is currently around seventy percent of which is still imported, it is necessary to find a replacement. One of the efforts to replace the Liquified Petroleum Gas is by utilizing dimethyl ether which can be produced from coal as raw material. Coal can be catalytically converted to syngas and then syngas can be catalytically converted to dimethyl ether via a direct two-step or one-step route. This paper will discuss the one-step synthesis of dimethyl ether from syngas using Cu-Zn-Al/g-Alumina as a bifunctional catalyst. The syngas used consists of carbon monoxide and hydrogen with a mole ratio of 1:2. The conversion reaction was carried out in a fixed-bed reactor at the pressure of 40 bar, the temperature of 240-300 <sup>0</sup>C, and the space velocity of 29.3-32.7 mL/g catalyst/minute. The highest conversion of CO that can be achieved is 90.08 % at a temperature of 300 <sup>o</sup>C and the space velocity of 29.3 mL/g catalyst/minute. The synthesis product was analyzed using GC. The dimethyl ether is an environmentally friendly fuel and non-toxic compound that does not destroy ozone, does not contain sulfur, and has a calorific value of about 30.5 MJ/kg which is lower than 50.56 MJ/kg
Desemination about the business of making biocharcoal briquettes from biomass waste for the people of Sambirejo Village, Pare District, Kediri Regency, East Java is one of the efforts to handle waste, efforts to find alternative energy sources and business opportunities for charcoal briquette production. The availability of biomass waste in Sambirejo Village is very abundant, but cannot be utilized. People in general have realized that the presence of waste if not handled properly will cause inconvenience to life, such as: accumulation of garbage that takes up space and unhealthy residential environment and if burned it also causes smoke that pollutes the environment. Therefore, the handling of waste and its utilization to produce charcoal briquettes need to be educated and trained for the people of Sambirejo, especially environmentalists and enthusiasts of the use of appropriate technology. For this reason, the Charcoal Briquette Team, Faculty of Engineering, Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University in collaboration with the Gubug Lazaris Community managed by the Priests of the Congregation of Missions intends to organize counseling on making charcoal briquettes for the people of Sambirejo Village in a scheduled and sustainable manner. From these activities, it is hoped that technology transfer will take place so that the community has the skills to produce charcoal briquettes according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) in terms of specifications for carbon content, volatile matter, water, ash, density and calorific value, which in the end the community has the ability to implement it in charcoal briquette manufacturing business.
Making charcoal briquettes from biomass for socio-economic development activists in Kevikepan Ngawi is way to solve the problem of waste from biomass in rural areas. Therefore, the waste problem and its solutions need to be socialized and implemented according to the capabilities of the local community. Then there was an education about how to process biomass into charcoal briquettes. The stages that were carried out includ-ed the preparation and implementation stages. The preparatory stage is to visit the area where the event is held at the Catholic Church of Santo Yosef Ngawi in order to confirm the event and prepare the method that will be carried out. The implementation stage is in the form of counseling which will be held on Saturday, July 28 2018 at 09.00 - 13.00. The activity was held at the Santo Yusup Ngawi Parish and the activity was attended by 57 members of the Kevikepan Ngawi community. The essence of the event at the implemen-tation stage is in the form of an explanation and demonstration of how to process waste by means of the briquette charcoal making method. The results of monitoring from the Unika Widya Mandala Surabaya community service team are that counseling and train-ing on making charcoal briquettes is new knowledge that can be done and developed because in Ngawi there is a lot of waste from biomass.
