PurposeThe purpose of the research is to test empirically whether the variables of personal attitudes towards entrepreneurship and perceived control mediate the relationship between entrepreneurship education and intentions of Ukrainian students to become entrepreneurs; to determine whether personal attitudes mediate the relationship between cultural context and entrepreneurial intentions.Design/methodology/approachThe research project carried out jointly by four Kharkiv universities used 349 survey responses from senior students majoring in business and economics and management and marketing. The data was analysed using Partial Least Squares regression.FindingsEducation and employed teaching methods, in particular, positively affect students' attitudes towards entrepreneurship, their perceived capability to start a business and indirectly influence entrepreneurial intentions. However, attendance of entrepreneurship-related courses itself does not enhance perceived control and has no significant effect on personal attitudes. The study also shows that cultural context has a positive influence on students' attitudes towards entrepreneurship and, therefore, indirectly impacts their intentions to become entrepreneurs.Research limitations/implicationsFirstly, the students participating in the study were from one country. And secondly, the paper deals with pre-educational entrepreneurial intentions.Practical implicationsThe study suggests that a practice-based approach to entrepreneurship education is a key to raising entrepreneurial awareness of young people in countries whose national cultures are built on collectivist values.Originality/valueThe results of the study are of value for teaching staff, who can actually influence students' entrepreneurial self-awareness, and for university management in the context of contemporary education reforms and the latest requirements to education process.
Reducing the negative impact of agricultural enterprises' activities on the environment with an increase in food demand can be achieved by implementing sustainable intensification measures, where the key measure is an increase in crop yields while reducing the use of resources. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors of sustainable intensification of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine by building a model of the interdependence of yield on the level of diversity of agricultural crops, application of organic fertilisers, availability of animal husbandry on the farm, labour costs, mineral fertilisers and depreciation, the use of fuel materials per 1 ha and the level of payback of costs. During the scientific study, a sample of 516 enterprises of the Kharkivska Oblast that grow agricultural products was processed; some of them are engaged in animal husbandry. Using the correlation and regression analysis method, data was analysed and processed using specialised Microsoft Excel and SPSS 21 software. The paper presents a model of the dependence of the yield of agricultural enterprises of the Kharkivska Oblast on numerous factors that were selected based on the theoretical provisions of the sustainable intensification of agriculture. It was found out that the diversity of agricultural crops, the application of organic fertilisers, the availability of animal husbandry on the farm, and labour costs are considerable factors and have both a positive and negative impact on yield. The model applied the effect of interaction between two factors, which showed the greatest impact on the dependent variable. The study provides reasoning for the availability of the highest yield among enterprises that additionally engage in economic activities for raising animals, as well as specialise in the production of various crops. The practical significance of the results obtained lies in the provision of proposals on the areas of sustainable intensification of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine
Abstract. Determination of grading as a modern and progressive mechanism for motivational influence and confirmation of professional competence of employees, based on the implementation of the principles of transparency and fairness. Methodology include methodological, scientific and theoretical analysis of the literature on the problem under study. Based on analysis of the study the main methods of evaluating positions in the organization through grading are highlighted. In particular, there are the main negative (the need for significant investment in the development, implementation and operation; the need for professionals for initial work; procedure for moving between grades causes various problems (organizational, financial, psychological); there is a great probability of subjective approach in the development and evaluation grades) and positive (allows to streamline payroll avoid subjective approach to remuneration; improves handling human resources management etc.) sides of grading. Descriptive levels of job evaluation by factors (Human Resources Management, Independence of the Work, Labor Conditions, Level of Specialized Knowledge, Level of Communication Skills, Complexity and Novelty of Tasks, Cost of Failure) are developed and system of grades is created. The importance of advanced methods of payroll in the modern small and medium-sized businesses and ensuring development of this area with application of state regulation mechanisms are justified. The results obtained are unified and recommended to the state authorities of Ukraine for use in small and medium enterprises.
In the context of growing demand for food, environmental pollution and the need to save resources, the circular economy model is becoming relevant to support Ukraine’s agriculture. However, the concept is not yet fully adapted to the needs of the agricultural sector of the economy. The aim of the study is to structure information on existing agricultural business models based on the principles of sustainable development, followed by the identification of circular business models and to identify the most likely cross-links between micromodel units and macromechanism elements. Achieving of the realization of Sustainable Development Goals is based on a balanced combination of the introduction of advanced technologies, interest in investing in sustainable practices and encouraging economic patriotism. Based on the best practices of the business models implementation both in Ukraine and abroad, the study reviews approaches to model classification, establishes the relationship between elements of the state and market mechanisms of sustainable development of agricultural enterprises with individual blocks of the circular business model and identifies expected benefits associated with the implementation of the principles of a circular economy based on the triple bottom line of sustainability (ie economic, environmental and social). Cases of using sustainable practices in the activities of Ukrainian agricultural enterprises in the areas of production of organic products, feed, production of alternative energy sources – biogas, bioethanol, etc. are analyzed, together with the opportunities for digitization and organization of work on the principle of joint use. The advantages of the circular business model, as opposed to linear, are a combination of three dimensions of sustainability, value creation for all stakeholders, not just owners, and the formation of a systemic perspective through the development of economic, social and environmental relationships to form a new sustainable environment.
Abstract. Introduction. The food system requires some transformational changes which should take into account the problem of population growth, uneven distribution of consumer resources and threatening impact of the intensive agricultural development on the environment. The purpose is to study the characteristics of the developed strategic scenarios of the food system and identify the ways and directions in the rational combination of market relations with efficient resource consumption at the national level in the implementation of the scenario of open source of sustainable development for Ukraine and Greece. Results. The article deals with the present-day food system of Ukraine, its benchmarks and opportunities to solve social, economic and environmental problems and achieve sustainable development. The authors have studied possibilities and principles of agricultural producers, as well as coordination of efforts by the government and society in choosing an open source of sustainable development scenario of the national food system. Directions to promote international cooperation and implementation innovations in the agricultural sector through a combination of close market ties with the efficient and economical resource consumption have been established. Possible directions to intensify close links between the markets for certain agricultural products and prospects of import substitution have been analysed. Practical ways to shift the demand toward economical use of food resources through measures aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, culture of healthy food consumption, reducing the availability of animal protein and foods high in salt, sugar and fat have been grounded. Potential ways to reduce urban migration through new opportunities of agricultural sector in contrast to global trends of rapid urbanisation and the experience of other countries as to the growing prestige of the farmer's work through cooperation with international organisations and free access to capital have been analysed. Conclusions. It has been found out that certain strategic scenarios of global food systems can be recognised in the early stages and best used at the national level. The considered algorithms of actions must be adapted according to the existing conditions at the tactical level and provide economic, environmental and social efficiency.
