In the near future, wood demand will be fulfilled by local fast growing woods from community forest. Among those, samama (Anthocephalus macrophyllus) is an endemic wood in Celebes and Moluccas. This species has been cultivated throughout Indonesia and usually harvested at age of less than 10 years. This research was conducted to examine the quality of samama wood at 8 and 10 years old. Each age group was represented by three healthy trees. Samples were made from 1 cm segmentation from pith to bark. Modified exponential curve was used to determine the transition of juvenile and mature wood in which maturity limit was achieved when growth parameter had reached the asymptote line. The quality parameters were specific gravity, moisture content, fiber length, fiber wall thickness and microfibril angle. The result showed that the first 6-8 segmentations from the pith were still juvenile, while the subsequent segments were mature wood. The 8 years old had 33.3-38.9 % of juvenile portion, while it was only 30.4-34.8 % in the 10 years old. This finding will be important in considering a proper technology for samama wood processing.

Sayuran indigenous adalah sayuran asli suatu daerah di Indonesia yang berasal dari daerah atau ekosistem tertentu. Sayuran indigenous merupakan salah satu sumberdaya hayati yang kaya manfaat dan memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai sayuran alternative. Studi ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan telaah informasi dan dokumentasi dari masyarakat. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara terhadap masyarakat melalui Focus Group Disscusion (FGD) dan observasi lapangan. Jenis jenis sayuran indegenous yang penting dalam kehidupan budaya masyarakat di Kampung Sire Distrik Mare Timur Kabupaten Maybrat ditemukan sebanyak 10 (sepuluh) jenis antara lain Melinjo, Rebung, Paku, Pakis, Kecipir, Labu, Buah merah, Jamur, Gohi dan Gedi. Nilai penting sayuran indegenous berdasarkan nilai manfaat tertinggi ada pada jenis Melinjo (1,34), Paku (1,2) dan Gohi (1,2). Ini membuktikan bahwa jenis sayuran indegenous ketiga jenis tersebut sangan bermanfaat bagi kehidpan masyarakat di Kampung Sire sebagai pangan sayuran alternatif. Nilai Kepentingan Budaya (Index of Cultural Significanse / ICS) jenis sayuran indegenous yang teringgi ada pada jenis Melinjo yakni dengan nilai ICS sebesar 96, sehingga dapat dijelaskan bahwa jenis sayuran indegenous Melinjo tersebut memiliki nilai kepentingan budaya yang tinggi dalam hal nilai intensitas dan nilai eklusifitas bagi kehidupan masyarakat di Kampung Sire.
Lathe check on veneer is formed as wood response to peeling process, which is usually analyzed in green veneer. After the veneer passed through drying process, the tendency of lathe check rises due to another factor and then it properly named as veneer check. This study was carried out to analyze lathe check and veneer check of samama. The fresh 8 year old samama log was peeled with the thickness of 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm subsequently after pretreatment of boiling in 50˚C for 4 hours and no boiling treatment as the control. Several 2-centimeter wide segmentations were noted from pith to bark and the resulted veneer of each segment was analyzed to determine the quality of lathe check and veneer check. The result showed that the total of peel crack (lathe check) declined from pith toward bark. The thicker veneer produced more lathe checks than the thinner veneer. Whereas, the depth and length of lathe check showed the same tendency as the total lathe check, which showed reduction toward bark’s segmentation. Boiling pretreatment in 50˚C for 4 hours before peeling process tended to increase the quality of samama wood veneer. It was indicated by decreasing in total, length, and depth of lathe checks. Further, it was found that veneer check increased by 19.42-24.94% in comparison to the lathe check. Therefore, the result of this research can be used as consideration in veneer production process of samama including handling and drying, so the quality of the veneer is well sustained.
Penelitian ini merupakan ringkasan kegiatan pemanfaatan Samama yang disajikan melalui Poster. Kegiatan pertama adalah penetapan kualitas Samama, berikutnya adalah identifikasi kualitas finir kupas Samama. Terakhir adalah mendesain kayu lapis dari bagian juvenil dan dewasa Samama. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kayu Samama memiliki bagian dewasa 62% pada umur 8 tahun. Randemen finir, gradasi warna dan jumlah retak kupas menegaskan kualitas finir yang baik dan bersaing dengan kayu lain dengan berat jenis yang setara. Selanjutnya saat dibuat menjadi produk kayu lapis, keteguhan rekatnya sesuai dengan yang disyaratkan SNI untuk kayu lapis interior I.
