This research was classroom action research that intended to improve student learning outcomes in Class X-1 SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya in Academic Year 2015-2016 on the dynamic electrical material. Dynamic electrical material in these research related to Ohm's Law and Electric Circuits Direct Current. The study consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisting of one meeting. Preliminary identification carried with the initial tests indicate that there are still many potential incorrect understanding of the concepts of voltage, electric current, and the concept of direct current electrical circuits. In the first cycle, learning outcomes showed that the average value was 72.35 and 85.29% of students reached the KKM. In these cycle still found students' understanding was wrong. In the second cycle, learning outcomes showed that the average value was 76.97 and 89.47% of students reached the KKM. In this cycle many students who has an understanding that got it right. It can be concluded that learning activities with the assistance of simultation PhET be able to improve student learning outcomes in Class X-1 SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. Keywords: simulation media PhET, physical learning, dynamics electricity. Nilai rata-rata pada siklus I sebesar 72,35. Kata-kata kunci: media simulasi PhET, pembelajaran fisika, listrik dinamis.
This paper reports the effect of teaching electricity in simple DC circuits using a scientific approach on students’ understanding. The study was a pre-experimental design using 12 students. They were all studying in specific first secondary schools in the sub-urban area in Kasongan City, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. This work used the multiple-choice tests to combine reasoning and certainty of response index (CRI). This test was used as pre and post-test, respectively, to assess students’ understanding of electricity in simple DC circuits. As a result, it is found that the secondary students have alternate conceptions about simple DC circuits, such as “electricity comes out of both ends of a cell” and “a circuit uses up the electric current”. On the other hand, the results of this study showed that the use of a scientific approach in learning could help students achieve conceptual change about electricity in simple DC circuits. The findings from the study suggested that there was a difference in students’ understanding of simple DC circuits between pre-test and post-test. The scientific approach to learning seemed to help students achieve conceptual change about electricity in simple DC circuits.
Based on the results of observations of learning activities carried out on students in junior high school, it is known that students' science process skills are still relatively low. In addition, students' understanding of concepts on the topic of environmental pollution is still low. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of predict-observe-explain (POE) based problem model on students’s conceptual mastery and science process skills in learning environmental pollution. The method that was used in this research was pre-experiment and the design was one-group pretest-posttest. Sample of the research were took from one class, namely class VII in a junior high school in Kasongan, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. The instruments used for the research were: (1) achievement test and (2) the science process skills observation sheet. The result showed that there was an improvement in students’ conceptual mastery in learning environmental pollution, indicated by average normalized gain of 0,68. Science process skills of students in environmental pollution topic through POE based problem model gained an average of good category. Therefore, the indicator of science process skills with highest score was the prediction and collecting data aspect, while the lowest score was communicating aspect. From this research can be conclude that applyng the POE based problem model can improve students’ learning outcomes and also give positive effect on students’ science process skills, especially on the topic of environmental pollution
Abstract. The purpose of this study is to describe the understanding of the direct current electric circuit basic concept that posses by senior high school students and natural science (physics) student teacher. The research instrument used in this study was the concept understanding test in the form of objective test that accompanied by certainty of response index (CRI). This test was developed from some relevant studies. The concept understanding test was given to 30 senior high school students and also 32 graduate students of physics education study program in Palangka Raya City. From the study result, it was found that the same of the kind of missconception problem tends to be found among the senior high school students and also the graduate students, for example is the concept of the consumption model of electric current and battery are the fixed current supply. The missconceptions on the direct current circuit that found in this study were also have been founded in some studies from other countries for various group of age and level of study. Keywords: missconception, electric circuit, direct current, CRI.
