Colorectal cancer is a disease that is far from the last place in the morbidity statistics in the Russian Federation and in the world. Along with well-known risk factors for the development of this pathology, some representatives of the intestinal microbiota are possible to participate in this process. Some studies suggest that Akkermansia muciniphila, a mucin-degrading bacterium, is associated with colorectal cancer development, but other studies cast doubt on this statement. In this review, we describe a series of studies devoted to determining the dependence of colorectal cancer on the amount of A. muciniphila, the relationship of this bacterium with inflammation development as a predictor of oncogenesis, the influence of other representatives of the intestinal microbiota on its function, and also describe one of the possible mechanisms linking the mucin-degraging ability of this bacterium with the development of oncogenesis.
We compared cytotoxic activity of blood mononuclear leukocytes from healthy donors and lymphokine-activated killer cells generated from them towards tumor and normal cells. Lymphokine-activated killer cells exhibited higher (in comparison with blood mononuclear leukocytes) killer activity towards tumor cells. Lymphokine-activated cells and mononuclear leukocytes had no lytic effect on non-transformed eukaryotic cells. Hence, we demonstrated selective cytotoxic activity of effector cells (lymphokine-activated killers) towards tumor cells of different origin (but not normal cells).
Once considered as a problem only in high income countries, overweight and obesity now rise in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in urban settings. This situation accelerates the development of different approaches to investigation of obesity, makes the medical community look for new approaches to investigation of the obesity. Human’s microbiome is an imprescriptible part of it. Nevertheless it’s energetic function wasn’t fully appraised. Microbiome takes part in shorty chain fatty acids metabolism. Bacterial cells provide over 70% of daily energy for enterocytes, it’s part in general metabolism takes over 10%. ScFA can change activity of adenosine monophosphate-dependent protein kinase, stimulate leptin synthesis. Microbiome regulates synthesis of glucagon-like peptide, which has contrinsular effect. Right composition of microbiome reduces non-specific inflammation, produces isomers of linoleic acid, which can cause reduction of inflammation too. This article appraises probiotics as drugs for treatment to obesity and eradication of some conditions that can arise during obesity (atherosclerosis, hypertension, depression).
