Aniba rosaeodora (Var. amazonica Ducke) Essential Oil: Chemical Composition, Antibacterial, Antioxidant and Antitrypanosomal Activity

Abstract: Aniba rosaeodora is one of the most widely used plants in the perfumery industry, being used as medicinal plant in the Brazilian Amazon. This work aimed to evaluate the chemical composition of A. rosaeodora essential oil and its biological activities. A. rosaeodora essential oil presented linalool (93.60%) as its major compound. The A. rosaeodora essential oil and linalool showed activity against all the bacteria strains tested, standard strains and marine environment bacteria, with the lower minimum inhibitor… Show more

“…Wells with cells treated with LPS (Sigma-Aldrich, St Louis, MO, USA) at 10 µg/mL and with dexamethasone (Sigma-Aldrich, St Louis, MO, USA) at 100 µM. After 48 h of treatment, cell viability assay was performed using the colorimetric MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide] (Sigma-Aldrich, St Louis, MO, USA) method [ 24 ], with modifications [ 25 ]. Briefly, 10 µL of MTT at 5 mg/mL was added and incubated for two hours at 37 °C and 5% CO 2 .…”

“…[23] Moreover, Villamizar and co-workers demonstrated the trypanocidal activity of linalool against the trypomastigote forms of a T. cruzi clone Dm28c (IC 50 /24 h = 306 ng mL À 1 ), [24] whereas its activity against epimastigote and intracelular amstigote forms of T. cruzi (SC2005 strain) was reported by Teles and co-workers (IC 50 /24 h = 198.6 1.12 and 249.6 1.18 μg mL À 1 , respectively). [25] However, although the trypanocidal activity of LA-EO might be related to the high linalool content, synergism with other LA-EO components is possible and needs to be further investigated. “…The infected cells were treated with ravenelin (0.242–3.87 μM) and benznidazole (24.0–384.3 μM) at least in triplicate for 24 h. Coverslips with the infected and treated cells were fixed with Bouin solution stained with Giemsa solution and examined under light microscopy. The intracellular amastigote number of one hundred cells was normalized and used to calculate the IC 50 [ 40 ].…”
