Effects of a Haptic Augmented Simulation on K-12 Students’ Achievement and their Attitudes towards Physics

Abstract: The current research aims to explore the effects of a haptic augmented simulation on students" achievement and their attitudes towards Physics in an immersive virtual reality environment (VRE). A quasi-experimental post-test design was employed utilizing experiment and control groups. The participants were 215 students from a K-12 school in Istanbul, Turkey. The students were split into two groups and each group were respectively taught the subject "mass gravity in the solar system", employing traditional inst… Show more

“…It shows that students like to think critically, find something interesting from physics through the investigation they do. Physics is based on concepts so that in learning abstract things there will be obstacles for students and teachers (Civelek, Ucar, Ustunel, & Aydın, 2014). By conducting experiments, abstract physics will become easier to understand and demand for students.…”

“…The results of interviews conducted, students like to do experiments, which indicates that the student likes to think critically, discover interesting new things from physics through the investigations that they do. Physics is based on concepts so that in learning abstract things there will be obstacles for students and (Civelek, 2014). By conducting experiments, abstract physics becomes easier to understand and attract students.…”

“…Based on this, if students already have an attitude like a scientist and are scientific about learning physics, then students will then settle down and continue their careers in physics as well [3]; [40]; [41]. Because, if students want a career in physics must also pay attention to students' interest in the subject itself because interest is very influential on the achievement of a student' s career and personal life [42]; [43]. Do minant male students prefer the path of science as a career and scientific act ivity [44].…”
