Tolerance is essential in harmonizing people's lives, especially in a multi-religious society. As a legal institution, madrasah is essential in instilling a tolerant attitude that students can apply later in their lives. This study explains the essential role of madrasah as a habitus field for inculcating a tolerant attitude to students using the Bourdieu habitus concept. It employed descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews at MTsN 4 Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. The results show that the madrasah can instill a tolerant attitude in students with the support of teachers as actors. It is a field and social capital (trust, values, and networks) that are integrated in the process of social reproduction of tolerant attitudes to students. The result also provides evidence that the madrasah is not merely an Islamic educational institution that teaches religion from a textual aspect but also a place where universal religious behavior is shaped in society, including an attitude of tolerance. Society will have tremendous confidence in the madrasah when it can contribute significantly to solving various social problems.

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan maksud untuk mengetahui habitus-habitus masyarakat Krapyak Kidul terkait tradisi lopis raksasa. Tradisi ini rutin dihelat setiap tahun pada tanggal 8 Syawal atau tujuh hari setelah Idulfitri di Krapyak Kidul, Kota Pekalongan. Penelitian tergolong deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan pendekatan strukturalisme genetik Pierre Bourdieu. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara terhadap narasumber yang direkam dengan gawai untuk nantinya data-data yang dibutuhkan dalam penelitian diambil dengan teknik simak dan catat. Data yang terkumpul akan dibedah berdasarkan konsep habitus dalam strukturalisme genetik Pierre Bourdieu. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini antara lain: (1) Habitus persaudaraan, tradisi lopis raksasa memiliki semangat persaudaraan untuk merekatkan masyarakat; (2) Habitus kompak, tradisi lopis raksasa merupakan media untuk mengompakkan masyarakat yang heterogen; (3) Habitus religius, tradisi lopis raksasa tidak dapat dipisahkan dari nilai keagamaan; (4) Habitus berbagi, tradisi lopis raksasa mengajarkan untuk berbagi pada sesama; (5) Habitus gotong royong, pembuatan lopis raksasa melalui proses yang panjang dan dilakukan bersama-sama; (6) Habitus kerja keras, eksistensi tradisi lopis raksasa tidak lepas dari usaha dan kerja keras masyarakat dalam melestarikan tradisi ini; dan (7) Habitus berdagang, tradisi lopis raksasa mampu menaikkan perekonomian masyarakat dengan adanya kesempatan untuk berdagang.Kata kunci: tradisi, lopis raksasa, syawalan

This study aims to analyze the values of nationalism materials in Islamic boarding schools. So far there has been a judgement believing that Islamic boarding schools are the center of radicalism in Indonesia. The militancy and aggressiveness of radicals are considered as the impact of education carried out in Islamic boarding schools. This study refutes research findings that assess Islamic boarding schools as the basis of radicalism. Through a study of the curriculum, books and teachings carried out in Islamic boarding schools, as well as the values of nationalism and tolerance, this research was carried out with work principles and library research methods. The data is collected from literature, especially the results of research, scientific publications and developing discourses related to pesantren and nationalism. The results of this study indicate that radicalism and terrorism do not develop in Islamic boarding schools. Instead of teaching radicalism and terrorism, the teachings in pesantren shave become the seed of the nationalism. Historical traces show that pesantren are an important part of the birth of the state, becoming a stronghold against colonialism. In the context of a multi-cultural, racial and religious nation, Islamic boarding schools not only teach the value and direction of religion, but also become a strategic media in instilling nationalism values, respecting each other and respecting differences, among persons with the same faith, and even to non-Muslims.
