Tetrafunctional aliphatic epoxy I. Synthesis and characterization

Abstract: A low viscosity tetrafunctional epoxy resin was synthesized by reacting amino-terminated polydimethylsiloxane with epichlorohydrin followed by dehydrohalogenation. The synthesized tetrafunctional aliphatic epoxy resin had an epoxy equivalent weight of 382, M n of 1492, M w of 2296, and a viscosity of 4.2 poise at 25ЊC. The chemical structure of the tetrafunctional aliphatic epoxy resin was studied by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and 1 H-NMR spectra. Results sh… Show more

“…Epoxy resins, the most common and important thermosetting polymers, have been used extensively in industry, as coating, adhesives, composite matrix, etc., due to their excellent comprehensive properties. Multifunctional epoxy systems are of particular interest, largely because of their high temperature capabilities and mechanical properties . Multifunctional glycidyl amine type epoxy resins, mainly represented by tetra‐functional one N,N,N′,N′ ‐tetraglycidyl‐4,4′diaminodiphenylmethane (TGDDM) and tri‐functional one triglycidyl para‐aminophenol (TGPAP), are included in the most important multifunctional epoxy resins.…”

“…Conventionally, the introduction of siloxane into polymers has been carried out through blending methods. The blending of siloxane and epoxy monomers causes an increase in viscosity of the blended resin [19]. It may also cause phase separation and release of siloxane component [20].…”
