“…Periods of apparent Ca deficiency were short, and even if the average figure of 22% is considered as a measure of true availability, Ca intake on average exceeded requirements by about one-third. However, Comar et al (1953) and Hansard et al (1954), in isotope dilution studies with Ca, have recorded true availability figures of 40% to 50% for feedstuffs in which this element was apparently between 20% and 30% available, and have shown that percentage availability falls with level of Ca intake; hence for the cows in the present trial the difference between intake and requirement is probably close to that shown in Table 3.…”
