“…Historically, evaluations of preretirement planning programs have been scarce and inconclusive as to their effectiveness and empirical accuracy (Glamser & DeJong, 1975). This study examines subjects' perceptions of their programs and how effective such programs have been in preparing them for retirement.…”

“…Yet, despite the extensive array of retirement preparation programs offered by employers and private organizations, scientific research on the effect of these programs is relatively scarce. Many of the previous studies were conducted in the 1970s and 1980s in the United States (Glamser, 1975(Glamser, , 1981 and their focus is primarily on a narrow set of behaviors related to financial retirement planning (Brady et al, 1996;Lee & Lau, 2004;Noone et al, 2009). Financial planning is, however, only one -albeit important -aspect of older adults' preparation for retirement.…”

Current knowledge on retirement preparation programs is primarily based on North American samples (e.g., Glamser, 1975Glamser, , 1981 and may not represent the social and economic conditions of other societies. Therefore, this research focuses on the experience of a sample of civil servants in Brazil.…”

& Doverspike, D., 2003).…”

“…According to Weiss (2005) and others they have only been moderately successful in impacting adaptation to retirement, and those impacts have had more to do with earlier periods of retirement rather than later periods, and more to do with practical planning rather than adjustment (Glamser & DeJong, 1975;Glamser, 1991;Reitzes & Mutran, 2004;Taylor, M.A. & Doverspike, D.
