“…In this case, our patient did not express the above symptoms without psychosis and so he was not diagnosed as suffering from serotonin syndrome. In contrast, Ebert et al (1997) reported three cases suffering from serotonin syndrome with psychotic symptoms without any other symptoms of serotonin syndrome such as autonomic and neurological symptoms. However, they considered that it was debatable whether their three cases should be interpreted as suffering from serotonin syndrome.…”

“…Preda et al (2001) reported that 43 (8.1%) of 533 admissions to a university hospital psychiatric unit were SSRIassociated mania or psychosis. Whereas Ebert et al (1997) investigated 200 fluvoxamine treated inpatients, and reported that only three (1.5%) developed a change of mental status including insomnia, agitation, confusion and incoherent thought. According to these reports, psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations or delusions may be caused by SSRIs, but the incidence of psychosis associated with fluvoxamine appears to be relatively small.…”

“…Analysis of data from patients on monotherapy with¯uvoxamine found no marked serotonergic symptoms, or SS, in a sample covering 200 inpatients who were prospectively evaluated for the occurrence of SS over 8200 treatment days (Ebert et al, 1997). Lejoyeux noted that 10 of 38 patients on CMI (dose 100±200 mg) exhibited`tremor, myoclonus, diaphoresis and shivering' after a week or more of treatment (Lejoyeux et al, 1995) and reported one patient who experienced SS on CMI alone (Lejoyeux et al, 1992).…”
