Torque Ripple Minimization Scheme Using Torque Sharing Function Based Fuzzy Logic Control for a Switched Reluctance Motor

Abstract: -This paper presents an advanced torque ripple minimization method of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) using torque sharing function (TSF). Generally, TSF is applied into the torque control. However, the conventional TSF cannot follow the expected torque well because of the nonlinear characteristics of the SRM. Moreover, the tail current that is generated at a high speed motor drive makes unexpected torque ripples. The proposed method combined TSF with fuzzy logic control (FLC). The advantage of this method i… Show more

“…It is mainly classified into three major transformations: an input fuzzification, a rule evaluation, and an output defuzzification. By using the three major transformations in the data flow of the fuzzy logic control, the system output of the fuzzy logic control can be obtained from the system input [34][35][36][37][38]. In other words, in this paper, the system input and output were the eV and the KSMC, respectively.…”

“…In addition, the fuzzy logic control using the triangular membership function has no overshoot and fast dynamic characteristic when compared with that obtained when using the others [41]. Therefore, in this paper, the triangular membership function with an advantage of convenience of implementation was adopted among various shapes of the membership function [34,36].…”

“…The controller design does not depend on a complete mathematical model, so it is suitable for the control of nonlinear systems. Some scholars applied fuzzy control technology to reduce torque ripple in the SRM [168][169][170][171][172][173][174]. In [168], a SRM torque ripple reduction control system was established based on an adaptive fuzzy control strategy.…”

“…The other major cause of the torque ripple is the discrete nature of torque producing mechanism due to the doubly salient structure of the SRG. Therefore, the SRG has very high torque ripples during the phase commutation period when the torque production is being transferred from the outgoing phase to the incoming phase [6][7][8][9].…”

“…The TSFs can be classified according to the functions used to implement them. Some of the most commonly used TSFs are based on linear [6,7], sinusoidal [8], cubic, and exponential [9,10] functions.…”
