<p>This study explored variants of inward disorder pattern (IDP) among elementary school children with different dysontogenesis forms. IDP is considered a complex integrative construct that affects I-concept development and is significant for an individual’s successful social adaptation. The sample consisted of 84 participants – elementary school children with visual, hearing, speech impairments, and mental development disorder. Their average age is 9. The interview was conducted individually.</p><p>We identified a number of specificities in IDP components content depending on a dysontogenesis form. These features are determined by both an impairment itself and component ratios where those between the physical-sensitive, cognitive, and motivational ones are of the greatest significance. Other IDP determinants are such complex self-awareness indices as a level of one’s traits awareness and self-perception in a context of social relationships. The study results suggest three variants of IDP for the moment.</p>
The relevance of the study of personal resources is related to the importance of knowledge about the factors that determine a person’s mental health despite living conditions. The research aim was to study the emotional intelligence as a coping resource of codependent women. Sample: 19 women aged 32 to 47 years who are in a close relationship with a chemically dependent person. All women are clients of groups that help relatives of dependent people in Kostroma. Methods: The Mayer — Salovey — Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test 1998 (MSCEIT v. 2.0), adaptation in Russian (Sergienko & Vetrova, 2010); Co-Dependency Assessment Inventory (Weinhold & Weinhold, 2008); Ways of Coping Questionnaire, Folkman & Lazarus, 1988, adaptation in Russian (Kryukova, 2010); Projective technique «Man in the rain» by E. V. Romanova, T. I. Sytko (1992). The results indicate a lower development of emotional intelligence, the ability to understand emotions and consciously manage them, and features of the emotional sphere were found: feelings of insecurity, emotional coldness, impulsiveness and infantile. 47 % of women cope with the situation of dependence of a loved one unconstructively and are prone to excessive self-control, search for social support, and strive to solve the problem in any way. This does not allow you to cope with the dependence of a loved one and with your own codependent state. Regression analysis shows a fairly positive impact on coping behavior of the ability to understand and analyze emotions, use them in solving problems, consciously manage them, and predict their emotional States in the future. On the one hand, distance from the situation is reduced, on the other hand, emotional intelligence creates conditions for confrontation with the dependent behavior of a loved one and for a positive reevaluation of the situation in the context of strengthening one’s own personality. These results allow us to speak about the resource role of emotional intelligence in the situation of codependent relationships.
(1) Background: The present study is aimed to determine the predicting role of objective (lifestyle) and subjective factors of middle-aged women’s psycho-emotional health such as their relations with parents, attachment and separation types. Women who are overloaded with professional and family roles have high stress level, their indicators of psychological well-being and emotional level decrease when they have to give everyday care to their elderly parents. (2) Methods: The research sample has two empirical groups. Sample of Study 1 includes middle-aged women (n = 61) aged 38–56 (M = 48.1, SD = 3.5); sample of Study 2 includes middle-aged women (n = 85) aged 33–52 (M = 40.6, SD = 3.1): married (70.5%) and divorced (29.5%), having children of 14–28 years old; giving everyday care to elderly parents for more than 1.5 yrs. Some live separately (62.3 %), or have to cohabitate with parents (37.7%). All women evaluate their life situation as difficult and manifest signs of high psycho-emotional stress. We used methods adapted for the Russian-speaking sample: getting socio-demographic information, an interview; The scales of psychological well-being; Attachment style and Interpersonal Guilt Questionnaires (study 1); Psychological Separation Inventory, Purpose-in-Life Test, projective methods (study 2), mathematical statistics. (3) Results: A number of factors and indicators of women’s psycho-emotional health decrease in the situation of role overload have been identified. Among the factors there are four main types of women’s relationships with parents: Anxious closeness; Ambivalence of feelings; Secondary relationship with parents; Alienation, predicting of psycho-emotional health that are reducing or enhancing their personal resources. Besides, a type of separation of an adult woman from her mother predicts her level of well-being. (4) Conclusions: The study confirms that middle-aged Russian women’s psycho-emotional health depends on contextual factors (difficult role-overloaded lifestyle) and factors integrating women‘s relations towards parents, attachment, guilt and separation. Types of middle-aged women’s relationships with parents contribute to their psychoemotional health in a different way.
The cultural and ideological shift of the parenting paradigm towards the child-centred approach in upbringing leads to the need to study the phenomenology of intensive parenting (motherhood) in Russian psychology. For the first time, the article has presented the quantitative results of the intensity of the attitudes of intensive parenting in Russian women (as part of the pilot version of the Intensive Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire (IPAQ) methodology testing) (Liss M., Schiffrin H.H., Mackintosh V.H., Miles-McLean H., Erchull M.J., 2013) The study involved 138 women aged 23 to 56 years (M = 38.43) with number of children 1 to 5 (M = 1.93). It was found that the central element in the model of intensive parenting Russian women advocate child-centredness. Differences in the fullness of intense parental attitudes, depending on the age of the mother, are described. The severity of the attitudes to intensive motherhood is rather weakly interconnected with the peculiarities of the life context, and the socio-demographic characteristics of women. The findings can be used to address parental stress, burnout and general life dissatisfaction with individual clients and families.
This article analyses the relationship between the internal defect picture, personality traits and the self-attitude of adolescents with disabilities. Topicality of the study is due to the scientific interest in the peculiarities of the formation of the self-concept in the most sensitive period of development for its formation – adolescence in a special group of persons – adolescents with developmental disorders. The empirical base of the study was 109 adolescents with deficits (impaired hearing, vision, speech) and delayed development. Mean age is 14 years. The most connections with the components of the internal picture of the defect were acquired by such personality traits as aggravation and anxiety. Aspects of self-attitude turned out to be more closely related to the components of the internal picture of the defect in terms of communication parameters, popularity among peers, behaviour, situation at school, happiness and satisfaction, family status, and self-confidence.
