Abstract

Adolescent girls are high risk to anemia rather than boys with prevalence in Indonesia 26,5%. This quasy experiment research with pretest-posttest group design study aimed to analyze effect of nutrition education on knowledge and nutrition consumption in adolescent girls. Samples with 51 subjects was conducted in Junior High School 21 Medan in 2015. The nutrition education was given twice using lecture & question answer with booklet. Nutrition consumption was gathered twice with food recall 24 hours method. The results showed that knowledge nutrition score increased from 62.39±12.05 points to 72.31±17.01 points. Nutrients intake (protein, vitamin C, Vitamin A, folic acid, iron, zink, copper) decreased in the post intervention. There was a significant difference (p<0.05) nutrition knowledge pre and post intervention, and no difference (p>0.05) nutrition consumption pre and post intervention. This imply that nutrition education only improved the adolescent girls’ knowledge nutrition, but did not improved the nutrient intake.

Keyword : Nutrition Education; Nutrient Intake; Adolescent Girls; Anemia.

Introduction The cochlear anatomy varies in each individual, and that has an impact on decisions regarding the insertion of electrodes. The measurement of the cochlear size is the routine examination required to choose the proper cochlear implant (CI) electrodes. Objective To acquire normative data on the size of the cochlea (length, width, height, scala timpani [ST] height, cochlear duct length [CDL]) of CI candidates in Medan, Indonesia. Methods This descriptive study was conducted based on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) temporal bone data and on HRCT temporal data manipulated to reconstruct three-dimensional (3D) multiplanar images with OsiriX MD DICOM Viewer version 9.5.1 (Pixmeo SARL, Bernex, Geneva, Switzerland) viewer of 18 patients (36 ears) who were CI candidates in Medan, Indonesia, in order to determine cochlear length (A), cochlear width, cochlear height, ST height and CDL, calculated through a simple mathematical function. Results The average cochlear length (A) was 8.75 mm (standard deviation [SD] = 0.31 mm); the average cochlear width was 6.53 mm (SD = 0.35 mm); the average cochlear height was 3.26 mm (SD = 0.24 mm) and the average ST height at the basal cochlea was 1.00 mm (SD = 0.1 mm); and 0.71 mm (SD = 0.1 mm) at the half turn of cochlea. The average total CDL was 32.45 mm (SD = 1.31 mm; range: 30.01–34.83 mm). Conclusion The cochlear size varies in each individual; therefore, the temporal bone measurement of CI candidates using HRCT is essential: for the selection of suitable implant electrodes; to minimize cochlear damages at the insertion of the electrode arrays; and to maximize the hearing improvements.
Kata kunci: Kromium, merkuri, tempat pembuangan akhir (TPA), timbal Abstract Dumping site of domestic wastes has potential risk to contaminate groundwater of the surrounding population through leaching process. To determine heavy metals (chromium, lead, and mercury) in groundwater at surrounding dumping site, a total of 68 dig well water samples (45 from Hamlet I and 23 from Hamlet IV) of Namobintang Village, Pancurbatu Sub-District of Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, were analyzed using Inductively Couple Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy. The relationship between the dig well distance and chromium, mercury, and lead content was tested by Mann-Whitney, Spearman's Correlation and Simple Linier Regression. The result of this study showed that chromium, lead, and mercury concentrations (mean ± SD, mg/L) were 0.036 ± 0.0096; 0.0003 ± 0.00018; and 0.005 ± 0.0041 (Hamlet I); 0.0370 ± 0.0115; 0.00026 ± 0.00013; and 0.0070 ± 0.0069 (Hamlet IV). Of 68 dig well water samples analyzed, there were only 8 water samples that had lead concentrations exceeding the drinking water limit of Peraturan Kementerian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia Nomor 492/Per/IV/2010. Meanwhile, there was no correlation of dig well distance to dumping site and heavy metal concentrations in dig well water. The study concluded that solid waste leachate in Namobintang did not contaminate the dig wells water located at 84 meters or more from the dumping site. Background: The use of toluene in printing dominates the use of metal chemicals. Toluene is used in 75% of printing work activities. Accumulation of toluene concentrations in printing can cause health problems to workers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of toluene exposure on central nervous system disorders in printing industry workers. Subjects and Method: This study was cross sectional in the printing industry in Medan, North Sumatra. The population consists of 50 people with consecutive sampling technique sampling. Data on subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders were measured by the German version of the Q18 questionnaire. The data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression tests. Results: Subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders increased with tenure ≥2 years (OR = 4.19; p = 0.018) and smoking (OR = 8.91; p = 0.001). Subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders decreased with age ≤30 years (OR = 0.17; p = 0.004), female sex (OR = 0.50; p = 0.002). Conclusions:The most dominant variable affecting the subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders is the smoking habit variable with a probability value of 0.92 or 92%.
