The composition of interstitial waters in Spain's Doñana National Park was assessed 4 years after a major pyrite slurry spill occurred from the Aznalcollar Mine. Metal and nutrient concentrations in pore waters from two of the most important watercourses traversing Doñana Park were measured: Guadiamar River (affected by the accident) and Partido Stream (unimpacted by the accident). Concentrations of dissolved constituents in interstitial waters varied according to land use in the two watersheds and to the effects of the mine spill. Levels of dissolved Co, Cu, Mo, Ti, and Zn were higher in pore waters from the Guadiamar River than in the Partido Stream, suggesting that concentrations of trace elements are still influenced by the spill. In contrast, concentrations of dissolved nutrients (NH4+, NO2-, NO3-, PO4(-3)) and some trace metals used in fertilizers (e.g. Al and Cr) were higher in the Partido Stream. Levels of dissolved As, Cs, DOC, Ge, Hg, Rb and V in the interstitial waters were equal in both watercourses. Metal concentrations in interstitial waters of the Guadiamar River floodplain were between 0.3 (As) and 16,000 (Zn) times lower than those previously reported in the river and groundwater a few weeks after the mine spill. Although metals in pore water appear to have reached levels characteristic of the area before the accident, concentrations are 60-150 times higher than those in pore waters from other regions. Metal:Al ratios in Doñana's pore waters suggest a transport of contaminants from the Iberian Pyrite Belt into Doñana Park.

Légszáraz állapotban tárolt talajminták és mintavételi helyeinek 25–27 év elteltével végzett ismételt mintavételezése után vizsgáltuk a Marcal-medencében és a Nyugat-magyarországi-peremvidéken a KCl–EDTA-oldható nehézfémtartalom változását üzemi viszonyok között. A jellemzett időtartam magába foglalja azt az időszakot, amikor viszonylag nagyobb műtrágyaadagokat alkalmaztak az üzemek. A vizsgálat a természetes és a humán eredetű környezeti tényezők együttes, hosszú távú hatása törvényszerűségeinek tanulmányozására irányult. A vizsgált, döntően barna erdőtalajok által borított régióban a talajok kémhatása az expozíciós idő alatt általában 1 pH-értékkel csökkent, a szervesanyagtartalom viszont nem változott. Az oldható Cd- és Cr-tartalom a homok mechanikai összetételű területen szignifikánsan csökkent a megfigyelés 26–28 éve alatt, a kötöttebb talajokon nem történt igazolható változás. A homoktalajokon megfigyelt változást a savanyodás hatására fokozódó kilúgozódásnak tulajdonítjuk. Közlekedési eredetű szennyezést nem tudtunk kimutatni. A szilárd burkolatú közlekedési utak 200 m-es környezetében és az attól nagyobb távolságra mért oldható nehézfémtartalom nem különbözött szignifikánsan. Nem volt kimutatható összefüggés a talajok oldható nehézfémtartalmának változása és a műtrágyázás hatására változó oldható P- és K-tartalom között. A vizsgált régióban a talajok oldható Co- és Pb-tartalma szignifikánsan növekedett a megfigyelési idő alatt. A növekedés 70–80 %-ban magyarázható az oldódási és redoxi folyamatok során keletkező könnyen oldható Mn-, Fe- és Altartalommal. Az összefüggésben a meghatározó szerepet a mangán játszotta. Összességében megállapítható, hogy a vizsgált területen a talajok könnyen oldható nehézfémtartalmának változásait nem külső szennyezés, hanem a talajhasználat által befolyásolt mállási folyamatok és a talajkomponensek közötti átrendeződés okozza.

Concentrations of potentially toxic elements were determined in the soil solution of two soils (acidic sandy and slightly acidic clay loam) treated with phosphate rocks having high Cd content in a pot experiment. Relative concentrations characterizing the mobility of metals (expressed as soil solution concentrations in percentage of their “total” amounts in the phosphate rock-treated soil) decreased with increasing phosphate rock rates in the sandy soil. Mn@Sr>Cd@Co were the most, while Pb and Cr the least mobile elements. The relative concentrations in the clay loam soil were much lower than in the sandy soil and they practically remained constant with increasing phosphate rock rates. It was concluded that in the experimental time frame the environmental risk did not increase with the increase of phosphate rock rate.
