The aim of this study was to investigate EFL learners' perception of an outdoor learning program, called English Scout Organization which was developed to strengthen their students' interests in learning English at secondary school. For this purpose, the 20 secondary school students in YPI Darussalam Cerme Gresik, Indonesia, were given questionnaires related to the intervention program. The program was designed for sixteen sessions with the activities including simple jigsaw, drilling, and group work activities which were scheduled in a weekly program. The students were tested in the eighth session (One Day Big English Competition) and in the sixteenth session (English Camp). These two steps of evaluations were employed to check the effectiveness of the implementation and the process of all the scheduled programs and to measure students' participation levels. Based on the analysis of the data collected, it was found that they enjoyed the English Scout Program both individually and in groups. They indicated that they enjoyed non-formal activities especially playing games, competitions, and adventures and their interests towards English learning were also strengthened during the implementation of the program.
Abstract-This article describes a digital flipping book application in developing integrated reading and writing materials using RELIFLASH application at State Junior High School of 4 Gresik. RELIFLASH which is an abbreviation of CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Flash is a commercial software that is used in developing this digital flipping book application. This study is a research and development design. The instruments to collect the data are interview and questionnaire through English teacher and 61 students in eighth grade, then they were implemented to English teacher and 28 students from eighth grade. The aims of this study are to define the best way to give learners the various media for studying English, especially in listening and reading by integrating both of the materials in a digital flipping book application and to investigate whether or not the use of the digital flipping book can help the students' problem in listening and reading. This application consists of materials and exercises which use project-based learning approach to design exercises according to PBL steps; essential question, plan, schedule, monitor, assess, and evaluate. This application can be operated by students in their mobile sources; laptop or PC, although they do not have software which is used to make digital flipping book. The results of this study are the digital flipping book application is well operated and students agreed this application used in learning process.
This study has the purpose to know which are more effective used weather using Hot Potatoes for CALL(computer-assisted language learning) and Quizizz for MALL(mobile-assisted language learning) to improve vocabulary enhancement in a learning among 11 grade students in Gresik, Indonesia especially at MAN 2 Gresik. this study was used a quantitative research experiment with quasi experiment design. This research experiment was used a sample size of 49 students of 11 grade. The students were divided into two groups that were picked used purposive sampling technique or determine the sample with used a certain consideration. The two group were 11 MIPA 1 taught with CALL media and 11 MIPA 3 taught with MALL media. Both group did pre-test treatment and post-test in the same time, also the got same duration and material when did treatment. The finding shown revealed that there is a significant difference in vocabulary enhancement between students who were taught using CALL and MALL. Then, after the researcher calculate about the effect size, the result shown the data was 0.3067, which means that there is a medium effect.
In this current era of technology, the use of online-based learning media that suits the needs of students can improve their learning skills, so teachers need to know the media criteria that must be applied to attract students' learning interests and those materials can be well received by students. Quizizz is one of those quiz-shaped and 4.0-based apps which is already popular among higher education. Quizizz can be used to train reading skills, especially students in English because in the application many features allow students to enhance their reading interest. The purpose of this study is that researchers will identify the influence of the Quizizz application on students' reading ability. The method used in this study was experimental. The instrument used is a test sheet. For data collection techniques conducted is to conduct a pre-test at the beginning of learning and a post-test at the end of learning, so that it can be seen the influence of the application of Quizizz application, in this case, improve students' English reading skills.
