While the issue of work-related stress has gained increasing attention as an important construct in Western literature, coping strategies concurrently have never been comprehensively reviewed in Asian tradition. The purposes of this review are to investigate work-related stressors across occupations and coping strategies used by these various occupations in reduction the stressful environment. The reviewed articles were obtained from three main databases; Web of Science, Scopus and Medline. Keywords including "stress", "work-related stress", "work stress", "occupational stress", coping strategies", "coping skills", "coping", and "coping mechanisms" were resulted from 14 articles that met the specified criteria. Main stressors identified in this review including workload, role ambiguity, responsibility, lack of job control, poor physical environment, conflict, interpersonal relationship and management. While, common coping strategies were utilized by employees were problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping and coping resources. The present evidence is limited, and numerous research is needed on stress and coping strategies in the future to broaden its impact on work and health-related outcomes.
This study examined how student at UiTM Bandaraya Melaka perceived green practices. Convenient sample of 200 respondents were surveyed. Students have positive perception towards green and findings show there is no significant difference on perception and there is significant difference in doing green activity. Result indicated that “recycle paper” is the most chosen activity done by respondents whereas “attending green conference” is the least activity respondent chose to get involve. The implications of this study are useful to student’s association; university and environmental organization as a guideline to organize green activities and to motivate students participate actively in green practices.
This study explores the effect of job stress's factors, role ambiguity and time pressure on job performance among employees in one of the water supply services companies situated at Muar, Johor, Malaysia. Besides, this study also aims to examine the most influential predictor on job performance among the respective employees. The study chose 144 employees from the respective company conveniently to participate in this study. All questionnaires were returned with complete answers by the respondents. Data had been evaluated through three analyses: descriptive, correlation, and regression analysis using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The results of the descriptive analysis indicated that the majority of the respondents were male, married and aged between 20 to 30 years old. Besides, most of the respondents have worked with the company for more than 15 years and SPM holders. Based on the correlation analysis, the finding discovered a positive and weak relationship between time pressure and job performance. Nevertheless, the result indicated that role ambiguity has a positive and strong relationship with job performance. Moreover, the study's findings based on regression analysis revealed that job stress factors had an influence of 55.9% on job performance. Another 44.1% was conceivably influenced by other variables that were not being studied. Furthermore, it also showed that role ambiguity is the most influenced factor of job stress on job performance. The finding of this study offers several significant insights and information for the company about the importance of job stress and its relationship with the employees' job performance.
Occupational stress has become an important issue in many organizations, since it significantly results in unfavorable effects on both employees and businesses including infectious diseases, malpractice, creativity, productivity and economic loss. Even though, there were plethora of research confirm the negative effect of occupational stress on employees' psychological well-being, however, there were limited of research highlighted in the field of health care industry involving health care professionals. Furthermore, there is dearth of knowledge in the literatures focusing on mediating effect on these relationships, since there has been a rise of several interventions to strengthen the relationship between occupational stress and psychological well-being. Thus, this present study is intended to determine the relationship between occupational stress, psychological well-being and psychological capital. In addition, this study also intended to propose the role of psychological capital as mediator between these relationships. Since, the study is still at its infancy stage in the health care context, future research could integrate to expand this study especially in practical perspectives, to benefit both employees and organizations.
