This paper aims to seek the category of religious terms in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Islam (written by Emerick Yahiya), the translation’s techniques which are used to translate them, and the accuracy of the translation in Memahami Islam. The translation was done by Tim Penerjemah Pusat Bahasa dan Budaya Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah. This research is a descriptive qualitative research and an embedded-case study. It was conducted by categorizing the religious terms which exist in the book. Based on the relevance theory, the researcher determined how a proper translation should be. Then, the researcher compared the source language and target language in order to identify the translation techniques. Finally, the researcher assessed the accuracy of the translation based on the translation techniques. The result shows that there are fourteen categories of religious terms in the book, namely eschatology, moral and ethical criteria, religious artifacts, religious constructions, religious events, religious groups, religious personages, religious sites, specialized religious activities, supernatural beings, terms of revelation, religious ceremonies, religious histories, and religious activities. In addition, the translator uses established equivalent, borrowing, literal, particularization, generalization, transposition, reduction, addition, explicitation and discursive creation techniques. In addition, the average score for the accuracy of the translation is 2,8.
This research aimed to find out the used translation’s techniques and the acceptability of the translation. This was a descriptive qualitative research and an embedded-case study. Based on semantic and relevance theory, the researcher determined good translation. This research was conducted by listing the religious terms found in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Islam. Then, the researchers compared the source language and target language to identify the translation techniques. Finally, the researchers and raters assessed the acceptability of the translation by conducting Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The result shows that the translator uses established equivalent, borrowing, literal, particularization, generalization, transposition, reduction, addition, explication, and discursive creation. Besides, the average rate for the acceptability of the translation is 2,8 out of 3. It means that the translation is mostly in accordance with the norm and rule of language in the target text.
Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) B (“B” untuk Kategori Tuna Rungu dan Wicara) Yakut Purwokerto adalah sebuah sekolah untuk siswa tuna rungu wicara yang terletak di daerah Kranji, Banyumas, Jawa Tengah. Berdasarkan observasi dan wawancara yang telah dilakukan kepada pihak sekolah, terdapat permasalahan utama di SLB B Yakut Purwokerto, yaitu di bidang pendidikan dan pembelajaran yang menjadi sebuah kesulitan bagi guru-guru di SLB tersebut dikarenakan pembelajaran digunakan untuk anak tuna rungu wicara, tetapi media pembelajaran yang tersedia hanya buku maupun modul standar yang menyulitkan dalam pembelajaran. Solusi yang dapat diberikan kepada SLB B Yakut Purwokerto sekaligus tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah membangun dan memberikan media pembelajaran alternatif berupa game edukasi interaktif yang dapat digunakan oleh siswa tuna rungu wicara di SLB tersebut. Metode yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan ini secara umum terbagi menjadi beberapa tahapan, yaitu : focus discussion group dengan pihak sekolah, pembuatan game edukasi, pelatihan game edukasi kepada guru, implementasi game edukasi kepada siswa tuna rungu wicara, serta monitoring dan evaluasi keberlanjutan. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah game yang dapat digunakan oleh guru dalam mengajar siswa SLB B Yakut Purwokerto sebagai media alternatif dalam belajar. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi menggunakan kuesioner, didapatkan nilai akhir 86,25% dengan indicator kategori “Sangat Baik”, yang menunjukkan bahwa game edukasi ini dapat digunakan untuk proses belajar mengajar di SLB B Yakut Purwokerto.
Modul merupakan bahan ajar yang dapat digunakan oleh guru dalam memberikan materi selama pembelajaran. Selain itu, modul merupakan salah satu syarat bagi guru untuk dapat mengajukan kenaikan pangkat. Meskipun demikian, masih banyak guru yang tidak dapat menyusun modul untuk membantu mereka dalam mengajar dan mengembangkan potensi diri. Oleh sebab itu, kegiatan pendampingan penulisan modul bagi guru SMA Negeri 4 Purwokerto ini akan memberikan keuntungan bagi guru dan siswa. Guru akan dapat mengajar baik dengan bahan ajar yang ada dan mendapat poin untuk kenaikan pangkat, dan siswa mendapatkan materi yang terstruktur dan sistematis. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah active and participatory learning yang meliputi ceramah, diskusi, dan konsultasi. Ceramah dan diskusi dilakukan untuk memberikan penjelasan mengenai modul pembelajaran secara umum, sedangkan konsultasi dilakukan untuk pendampingan pembuatan modul yang dilakukan oleh guru dan narasumber. Dampak dari pendampingan modul di SMA Negeri 4 Purwokerto ini berdampak baik bagi guru. Hal ini ditunjukkan dari modul yang dihasilkan guru sudah disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan peserta didik. Selain itu, guru juga memiliki bahan ajar yang baik untuk penyampaian materi dan siswa dapat menguasai materi yang diberikan dengan baik
The research aimed to analyze the metaphor of animals’ names in Javanese expressions as representing power and authority in its positive and negative sides. The ancient land of Java was ruled by kings. This situation indicated that ancient Javanese were closely related to kingdoms and regulations that were strict rules of politeness rules or authoritarian. It created a situation where direct criticisms, suggestions, and warnings were conveyed to those who had power, which might cause the problem to the conveyor. Thus, people preferred to express their opinion in the metaphorical form to preserve the Javanese manners. Since Javanese people also lived as farmers and hunters, they could identify the nature of various animals’ characters. They began to compare some animals’ nature characters to describe human characters or behaviors in the forms of metaphor known as Javanese expressions. The methods applied were a descriptive qualitative by choosing the data that contained animal names, classifying them, analyzing the meanings of the expressions, and providing results of the analysis. These metaphorical forms are hitherto known as proverbs and are make used them as philosophy of life. They also used proverbs. The data were taken from “Seri Kajian Sastra Klasik 100 Paribasan Jawa Simpul-Simpul Kearifan Lokal Budaya Jawa” by Bambang Husen Al Marie in 2018. There are 26 expressions using animal names found in this dictionary. Macan, gajah, and asu are the three animals that are mostly used as a metaphor to describe human characters within a sovereignty. Heuristic and hermeneutic approaches are applied to analyze the data and to find out the real meaning of the classified data.
