Pemberian suplementasi zat besi untuk mencegah dan mengatasi anemia belum mampu memaksimalkan penurunan angka anemia pada anak. Zat besi yang tidak mencukupi kebutuhan harian, rendahnya penyerapan zat besi, dan kurangnya keanekaragaman makanan yang mengandung zat tersebut menjadi penyebab utama anemia pada anak. Kemampuan absorbsi makro dan mikro-nutrient sangat dipengaruhi oleh struktur histologi usus halus. Perbaikan struktur histologi usus halus dengan pemberian probiotik dan zinc pada kasus malnutrisi diharapkan mampu meningkatkan fungsi absorbsi, sehingga penyerapan nutrisi, terutama zat besi, dapat lebih baik. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh probiotik dan zinc terhadap kadar hemoglobin pada tikus malnutrisi.
Introduction: Malnutrition causes small intestinal atrophy leading to impaired nutrient absorption, zinc deficiency, and intestinal mi-crobiota imbalance affecting appetite. Zinc-only supplementation programs have been shown to be ineffective in reducing the national prevalence of malnutrition. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the effects of probiotics and zinc in single or combined supplementation on the histological features of ileum and appetite regulating hormone in malnourished rats. Materials and methods: This study included 25 rats aged 8 weeks (weight 150-200 g) divided into 5 groups. Group A served as normal receiving standard diet, group B served as malnourished receiving low calorie diet. Groups C, D, E were pretreated with calo-rie restriction for 14 days to induce malnutrition. The treatment was given for 14 days. Group C was treated with probiotics and zinc combination, group D was treated with probiotics, group E - with zinc. All treatment groups received standard diet at the same time. Ileum sample was taken and subjected to histological preparations using hematoxylin-eosin staining to evaluate villi height and mucosal thickness, blood sample was taken for GLP-1 and ghrelin levels evaluation using ELISA methods. Results: Probiotics and zinc co-supplementation significantly increased villi height and zinc supplementation significantly increased mucosal thickness compared to malnourished rats. GLP-1 levels were significantly increased and ghrelin level was reduced with single or combined supplementation of probiotics and zinc. Conclusions: Low-calorie feed administered within 14 days successfully changed the profiles of small intestinal histology in rats. Either single or combined administration of probiotics and zinc develop the histological features of ileum and appetite in the malnou- rished rats.
Background: Wound healing is very important to return skin as soon as possible and the integration is a complex and dynamic process. Proliferation phase involving fibroblasts is one of important step-on wound healing. Use of drugs such as povidone iodine on cuts aims to accelerate wound healing is still being debated. Healing by land snails’ mucus can be an alternative because it has many benefits. This study wants to know about the influence of land snails’ mucus on the number of fibroblasts in healing cuts.Design and methods: The study is an experimental research with post test only randomized control group design. The subjects were 18 Mus musculus strain mice that were divided into 3 groups. 1st group as a control group of untreated, 2nd group was given povidone iodine 10%, and 3rd group was given land snails’ mucus during 5th days. On the 6th day the mices were killed for histological study.Results: The data showed that average number of fibroblast in 1st group is 93,85; 2nd group is 126,37; and 3rd is group 217,5. The results of one way anova statistical test showed significant difference among the three groups p = 0,000. The results of post hoc test showed significant difference in all groups (p < 0,05).Conclusion: The mucus of land snail is influence the number of fibroblast in healing cuts (Sains Medika, 4(2):195-203).
Introduction: Cholestasis can cause obstruction of substances that should be secreted into the duodenum for further digestive process. Causes of intrahepatic cholestasis in children less than 2 months of age include idiopathic neonatal hepatitis; infections such as Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), toxoplasmosis, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), sepsis; and metabolic disorders, resulting from long-term administration of Total Parenteral Nutrition, and part of a syndrome. The infection can be transmitted either vertically or horizontally. Objective: This case report aims to determine congenital infections that can occur in children during pregnancy. Method: This study is a case report that applies a descriptive observational method about a 2.5-month-old boy being treated at Dr. Kariadi Semarang with a diagnosis of cholestasis, cytomegalovirus, normochromic microcytic anemia. Data was obtained from primary and secondary sources. Results and discussion: This case report explains that transmission of CMV infection can occur from mother to fetus during pregnancy, thus causing congenital infection. This infection becomes a chronic infection in children, thus affecting Hb levels in the blood and causing anemia. Examination of bilirubin, liver enzymes, and ultrasound of the abdomen confirmed the diagnosis of cholestasis. A head CT scan and ABR test are important for long-term monitoring. Conclusion: Infections that occur in patients due to cytomegalovirus may be acquired intrauterine. Complete investigations are needed to establish the diagnosis, so that appropriate therapy can be given. Long-term monitoring is important for the presence of intracranial calcifications as well as hearing loss.
